Part of salesmanship is selling an ethical vision of the future.
Those who can, come across as dynamic, enthusiastic, optimistic, and capable of manipulating reality.
No better vision has ever been sold to the world than the Vision of America.
On July 4th, 1776 – the 56 delegates of the 2nd Continental Congress attached their names to the single greatest vision for humanity as described in the Declaration of Independence.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
This idea, this vision, is still very much alive today no matter what vision the mainstream media or politicians try to sell you.
If it weren’t, we wouldn’t have immigrants from all over the world coming through our borders with no money, no help, no established family or friends, and no prospects in their pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness.
If it weren’t, those who talk stupidly about leaving this country when certain politicians are elected would have left by now and given up their citizenship.
If it weren’t, those who have means would have left by now and given up their citizenship.
Make no mistake, America is not perfect.
- America has enslaved people.
- America has segregated people.
- America has put people in internment camps.
- America has [fill in the blank]
But, if you are going to criticize America, you have to call it fairly and consider the good America has done too.
- America fought itself to abolish slavery.
- America enacted civil rights.
- America has helped protect the sovereignty of other nations both with and without force.
- America has empowered its citizens with two critical requirements to truly be considered free – the right to free speech and the right to defend oneself.
- America has [fill in the blank].
Now, will America ever be perfect?
Probably not. Nothing ever is.
But it’s the pursuit of the vision that was sold back on July 4th, 1776, that matters most.
So long as we as individuals and as a nation continue to believe and buy into the idea that…
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
then the Vision of America shall always ring loudly throughout the world and be a destination for those who might not be as fortunate to live in a nation that holds those truths to be self-evident.
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
